I have a MF202 with serial number JGF302147. The engine block number is 1024942M91 with serial number 1128. The problem is that the casting mark is missing two digits. I can read Z1-- but two of the digits are missing. My local tractor shop says that my tractor model is standard with the Z134 but it is possible that another block could have been installed. I was hoping someone who is better informed than myself might give me some suggestions regarding my quagmire. I also have pictures of the markings on the block and I would be happy to email them to someone trying to help me.

Thanks,
David Wilson

I think the main difference is the stroke of the crank, maybe a different piston and sleeve set too.

In the owner's manual for my MF-135 it has specifications for Z134 (used in the Special) and Z145 (used in the Deluxe).

Z134 Bore 3.312", stroke 3.875", displacement 134 cubic inches compression ratio 6.6:1

Z145 Bore 3.374", stroke 4.062". Displacement 145 cubic inches, compression ratio 7.1:1.

1 024 942 M91 is the part number for a block assembly, short. Includes pistons, crankshaft, bearings, camshaft, connecting rods and bearings, oil pump, oil pan and timing gears. A Z134 to fit the MF-135 Special.

Most 202"s had Z145 blocks but Massey ground the 45 off the block and then stamped them 34 because that is what they put in them. Meaning your engine is a Z134.

Same story as a MF204 I once owned however I was told it was a newer factory short block. You could just make out the 34 that was hand stamped into it.

That makes sense because there is a light stamp that reads 34. It looks so sloppy that I thought someone might have been trying to play games.

What are the differences between the two blocks? Thanks,
David Wilson
