brought it up from south florida,guy said all he ever ran in it was straight 30w oil.If I switched to 15-40 is it going to hurt or should I stick with the straight 30 weight? Thanks

Depends on if the 30wt was non-detergent. If it was non-detergent then it will have allowed sludge to build up in the engine which can come loose in chunks and block things up when you put your high detergent diesel service 15-40wt oil in. If it was non-detergent then you should be able to change but it would be best to wean it onto it. Hope this helps, tractorsam

I do not believe that you can go wrong using 15W40 diesel spec oil in it, especially if this is a diesel. Many/most modern automotive spec oils are no longer suitable for older engines with flat tappet camshafts.
