I was gonna ask the same thing- All Massey's I have ever seen have a factory 3 pt. hitch as standard equipment, since Fergusson came up with the idea which is now industry standard... All 285's have the perkins 318 Deisel too. They were made after gas engines were no longer offered for ag tractors. They are a very nice tractor, we've got one with over 6100 hours on the original engine and clutch. 2700 sure sounds low, but ussually if it has a loader it sits in the yard while the rest are working the land and doing the heavy pulling and everything else. If the lights still work, it's a good indication that it was taken care of. A neighbor has a 285 that doesn't have any lights on it anymore. While it's still a good tractor, I don't think I'd give more than $6000 for it. I've seen 285's listed for up to $12000 if in really good shape. If this one is in good shape, and has a solid clutch (loaders tend to eat them up, like our 165, 4000 hrs, atleast 3rd clutch in the 15 or so years we've had it. It wasn't a loader tractor for about 3-4 years after the 1st one broke, then we eventually had another one mounted.) it's worth the $10,000, although I'd still try to talk them down to $8. Almost every farm has, or had, a 285 in our area. Some had 2-4. It's a good size tractor that can do quite a bit of work. Great for hauling wagons and doing hay too. That's what ours does now, although it used to be the big tractor that pulled the plow and ran the chopper. Was always our haying tractor though... Dad wore out the 1st set of tires cutting hay for all the neighbors with a 9' Ford 535 (NI 290) haybine on the back. Donovan from Wisconsin
