Well we finally got some time to putts on 444 last nite. We disassembled the live pto and disk brake assemblies from the tractor. We found LOTS of oil on both sides. So it looks like We'll have to replace a few seals [5]. I couldn't find a good service manual so it looks like wil have to make do. Also one of the brake disks fibers fell of the disk [delaminated]. I haven't started looking for parts yet but I,m hoping that won't be a problem. Does anyone have any exsperiance with replacing seals and is there anything I should look out for? Always looking for advice from someone whose been down that road before. Thanks Dale in MN.

I have thought a long time on how to answer this,,I have only had to change 1(one) seal(the outside one on the LPTO clutch side and it was fairly simple but that was 10 years ago(bad Mem.).There are Weepholes(Bottom of casting) back of the brake discs to let any oil out before it gets to the brakes, check for them being plugged. Now the Problem is THERE are two different brake Discs Riveted and Bonded depending on the Serial Number.Unless you can find a set in a junk yard, your only hope is to find a Brake Shop(Manf.)that relines brakes. Some NAPA stores have a brake relining shop.If you need the Part Nos.or Sizes on the seals let me know.I'am really sorry I can't be more help.

Thanks for the input. I got a chance to look at the 444 again tonight. It looks like the oil is leaking around the plug on the gear shaft on the left side and maybe just the the small seal on the drive pinion assy. on the right side. Maybe I can get around replacing the seals on the inside of the bearing carriers. The brake linings are of the bonded type. There is a brake shop in Nord East Minneapolis that I've took some other old brake problems to that should be able to reline the disk. I have a copy of a 444 333 parts book I was able to to borrow from a nice gentelman down in Iowa. So I have the original part numbers of the seals. The weep holes were plugged so we got them cleaned out. Sorry for the long note. Thanks again for all the advise and knowledge. Dale L
