I have just purchased a set of 18 inch rims for a Super 90 that I'm restoring and I was wondering if you guys had a good way to paint them. The inner part is red and the outer is aluminum, which is hard to paint without messing them up. I had a set of oversized tires on the 90 and painted them aluminum first them tried to brush the red but it is neary impossible to make them look nice, now I want original tires on the Super 90 and I want them to look neary perfect. ANY IDEAS? Thanks!

Never done one, but the key to any paint job like that is a very good mask job and tons of patience.

I would do like the other 2 guys have basically already said.

Prime the whole thing first. I'm not sure which one would really be easier to mask off, because either way it's all just about the same contours. I would probably try painting the red first, then be VERY slow and patient with some masking tape, and very cautiously tape over the entire inside disk, making sure to get inside the knooks and crannies. Use an exacto knife to cut off any exess tape where you want the paint to go.

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to ruff up the over spray from the other color a little bit before spraying for better adhesion.

The guys on the paint board could really give you some good ideas.

Makes a guy really wonder how they pulled it off with hundreds of rims at a time in the factory doesn't it?....

I prime the whole wheel, then I spray the center red and brush the rim silver.

Hello, I had mine done so I cannot give specifics, but I believe he laid them flat, and masked them off. He did the backside first so that the front would look better... HTH

Let's go Mountaineers,
