Having just aquired a pony vigneron, today was a good day to try and get her running, after some fiddling i managed to get the starter to turn over the engine quite well, there was fuel at the plugs but no spark??points and cap look like new, recently replaced.Plugs work fine when tried in the fergie i have a live from ignition switch to the battery side of the coil and the other to the points but no spark either at the points or plugs or if i hold the coil ht lead to the chassis when engine turning over?? it's a 6 volt system but was negative earth when i looked i am assuming the previous owner put the battery on the wrong way round? either way positive or negative there is nothing coming out the coil can i assume the coil is unservicable and if so is there a way to check them? i did replace the condenser during the afternoons tinkering to no avail.
Any thoughts or help would be most apreciated indeed. i may add that when i bought it the guy had it running by using a pull start with a grey tea 20 i cant think how it ran but i did hear it and see it???
regards Mick in France.

You have made a good start! Check the points carefully that they are opening and closing properly and that the wire to them is not shorted to ground anywhere. The eyeball check is that there should be about the same clearance under the lift block when the points are closed as the point gap is open at the widest. If that is all ok, try replacing the coil. The only thing to check on the coil polarity is the marks on the 2 small terminals. If you have negative ground, the negative must go to the points, If positive, the plus side must go the points. Good luck.

Hi AllanC Just a quick thank you and to let you know i have the pony up and running now, it seems it was the points, i thought i had them set right but not so after turning her over and over for some time stopping and ajusting points now and again, taking the coil off the TEA 20 and trying that i finally coaxed her into life, scared the whatsits out of me when it fired up! I trailered the pony home in an old converted caravan one i have made a single drop down rear door/ramp for to use when transporting my Messerschmitt bubble car around, the pont was still inside when it started and of course i had to remove the muffler to get her through the rear door. So as you can imagine while leaning over the engine working the lever on the starter from the oposite side with my left ear very near the exhaust manifold the resulting flash and bang of all that fuel air mix in the motor was a little loud to say the least!Glad never the less to get her going.
She won't run on anything over half throttle without the choke open so i guess theres a small fuel starvation problem to sort out but at least i know she runs and i can take it from there.
Once again thanks for your input and a Happy New Year from France.
Regards Mick.
