I bought S/N SMG 653116 (1959 model I think), in Minnesota about 4 years ago. The tack showed 2100 something and I did not believe it. The brakes held very little. When those were repaired we found what could be original brake disks, with almost no wear. The reason they did not work well was because they had been in contact with the metal surface for so long without moving, that the fiber bonded to the metal and then when things were moved the fiber brake material stuck to the metal and became glazzed. This is my opinion and was my first experience with disk brakes on a tractor. This tractor came with a loader and bucket of the kind people use to pile snow. The only place on the tractor that I have found any real wear is in the clutch foot pedal arm. At the foot pad end of it you can move it in and out a fraction of an inch from the housing. The unit did not have power steering and would have been awful to move snow with. So.
I am wondering if it possible that this unit did just sit around waiting to move snow and it never happened. Opinions from the forum about what to look for as clues to the real hours are most welcome.

My Massey manual lists the engine power at

52HP@2000
155LB/FT@1150-1250

Nebraska Test: Test Number: 659 Test Date: June 1958 Engine: gasoline PTO HP: 46.1 Drawbar HP: 41.6

The hours on the proofmeter are dependent on the proofmeter having worked for the last 45 years. If you have a known history on the machine you are much better off.

For example, my 65 is about to have zero hours! Everything was trashed and I am doing a resto/refit. The proofmeter died many years ago.
