I recently bought a MF 165 (gas)and have very little knowledge about this machine. Today I hitched up the snowblower but the 3 point hitch will not lift it. Without any weight on the arms they will raise slowly. To get them to drop I have to knudge the lever down just a little. If I move the lever down too far the arms don't move.
I have an I&T shop manual but I find it severely lacking on relevant information.
Questions: 1. Does this sound like an adjustment problem or does it need to be rebuilt?
2. Is there a complete rebuild kit available that has all the required parts and what is the part number?
3. What is the difference between/functions of the Draft Control Lever, the Position Control Lever and the Inner Quadrant Control Lever?
4. What is the purpose of the Master Control Spring and how does it work?
5. In the I&T manual (MF27) is Figure 270 a picture of the hydraulic lift cover removed and upside down?

Thanks

That sounds like the master control spring is letting the draft sensing plunger pull out to far and neutralizing the pump control valve. That is quite common on the MF100 and MF200 series tractor when lifting a heavy load. Click on the link to see a picture showing how to disconnect the top link and connect a chain between the implement and the rear housing of the tractor to check to see if that is your problem. If it will lift ok connected like that let me know and I will tell you what your options are for stopping it from doing that.

I did the chain thing and it lifted the blower right up. The clevis on the master control spring is really loose (sideways and up & down) - both the shaft and the top part where it attaches to the lift cover. I didn't unhook the clevis from the lift cover yet to check in & out play.

The snow blower is heavy - I don't know how much - I'm guessing 1000 lbs or more. It's a 7 foot Pronovost if anyone knows what they weigh.
The response lever is on fast. I have noticed that it is very easy to move - almost too easy like it's not doing anything.
What is the control spring supposed to do?

The draft control is only used for soil engaging implements likes plows or cultivators. Make sure the float position lever is all the way back. Otherwise the 3 pt. won't lift with the position control. The outer control is draft and the inner is for position control. Something could have came apart but I doubt if you need a complete rebuild. Hi,
I'm looking for the easy way out here. We don't get much snow over this side of the pond so are not really familiar with the snow-blowers.
Is this a very heavy machine that exerts a lot of pull on the top link? If so it could be adjustment of the control spring situated forward of the top link attachment.
As far as dropping is concerned; have you checked the response lever. This is situated on the round cover next to your right heel when sitting on the tractor. This is self priming and controls the rate at which implements will drop. DON'T move it to FAST unless your snow blower is on the floor. With the lever in FAST operate the lift and see if there is any difference.
If you can give me answers to these points we'll take it to the next stage.
DavidP.
