I live in an area that can get well below freezing and as hot as 100F. What would be a good grade of motor oil that I could use year round? The manual only mentions straight weight oils. What about multi-viscosity? tractor supply seems to push the 15W40. Any suggestions?

thanks, Dale

We run 15w-40 in everything, don't waste your money on synthetics unless you put 3-500 hours on every year.

BTW- Is it a 285 or 1085? we've got a 285 and it's got 6100 on the original 318. When we get the oil filters from the dealer, they don't even stock the "standard" short filter for the 4 cyl, perkins, they just give us one for the larger 6 cyl. that are a bit taller. This is a big time dealer too with great parts support.

15-40 is OK if you always have the tractor plugged in. Otherwise a thinner oil would be better for starting. 0w40 synthetic is claimed to be for year round use but is pricey. I had some in my bobcat last year and noticed that it started a lot easier and spun faster in the cold. I think there is also 5w40 semi-sythetic. Dave

Looks like 15W40 wins the vote. I was considering using it, I just wanted to check to see what other peoples experience with it was....Thanks.

B.T.W. it is a 1085 with 3600 hours on it.

Dale
