Sandy,
No idea how I found this website, but out of interest, I have a MF 702. I bought it donkey's years ago in Inverurie and the dealer removed the back actor for me and fitted a standard tractor 3 point hitch. I used it with a rear mounted snow plough. We lived between Huntly & Dufftown, so plenty need for it! A few years ago we moved up to the Banffshire Coast, where snow is rare, and the old tractor is pretty much retired, although I use it for odd jobs now and again. It was always reliable and contrary to a comment I read the 23c engine still starts perfectly, first go, as long as you use the Ki-Gas system fitted and follow the proper starting instructions on the dash plate. My 702 has the optional hydraulic brakes and power steering, which work well enough. The PTO is not live drive, which make it awkward for agricultural jobs. If I am honest my beloved tractor is tatty as anything, but it is quite sound at heart. I have no wish to part with it and it seems happy in my garage along with various other old vehicles I own. One day I will repaint it etc..... ..perhaps when I retire? I still have the handbook and would be happy to photocopy sections if you ever need the information therein. Kind regards, Duncan.

Hello Great Pic!In my humble opinion the early industrials are great machines very stout, very servicible and the styling is very cool.It seems people are rediscovering these machines judgeing by current priceing. Most parts for these machines are very plentiful (for the tractor it self) due to the high degree that parts interchange with AG models, (except for the solid front axle, axle support and hard nose) but these parts can last a life time if not abused .I managed to locate a basket case Work Bull 202 in northern California ,but I have also found these all over the US by simply going on line.Same goes for salvage yards.I am currently restoring a MF220 backhoe identical to the one you have pictured.I also own a MF 30B.After market swing motor seals can still be found for the 220 backhoe by a dedicated MF parts person. these are one of the parts that are getting rather scarce.

Looks to be a MF220 backhoe. Hard to find parts for... I have one.

Let me know if you ever decide to sell the backhoe.... may be interested for parts. I do have the MF220 parts and repair manual though.

According to my book on MF industrial, the 702 is based on the MF 35. It has the Standard 23C diesel. One of the worst starting diesels. It had a 4 speed transmission and was heralded as the first truly integrated backhoe/loader. The backhoe and loader were Davis style. It would most likely be a late 50's model. Parts I think could be difficult to find for the hoe. Not sure about the rest of the unit. Hope this helps. Dave

Sandymac, does it look like this? Just hauled this home yesterday for my neighbor. It is a MF65. Will have to go over and look at the model No of the loader, but it is a MF as well. It originally was one that the Canadian Military had. Looks to be a fairly stout unit. He has to do some minor maintenance on it prior to using it so can't really comment on how good it is.

Hello again Forgot to ask Leon R what the towing weight for the Massey pictured was.And what did you tow it with.I have been debating if I should tow A bare Work Bull 202 without the hardnose assembly attached, with a 2006 4runner and a 7000 lbs.GVW tandum axle trailer with surge brakes.I will be towing it from Washington state to So.California.My appologies for going off subject.

Jesse, The unit was located about one and a half hours away. It was too long for my 16 ft trailer that I use to haul by ordinary tractors with so we had to make two trips. we detached the backhoe and hauled it first. I think the whole unit would be close to 10,000 lbs as it had fluid in the rears. Also had inner weights on the front wheeels. I used my tweeked up(400hp) 94 dodge cummins to tow it. What I need is a bigger trailer but this is the first time that I have had the opportunity to tow a rig like this.
