I found a MF for sale and want to get some info on it before I start talking with the seller. I tried to find a ser# so I could research the model and year here but couldn't locate it. Can anyone here point me to where it might be located?
The tractor has a continental 4cyl gas engine, transmission is 3spd with high/low range, no power steering and no live (engine driven)hydraulics. PTO control on the right side of the seat has two levers. Front end appears to be center pivot design like Ferguson TO series. Proof meter is in the center of the dash above the column flanked by two other gauges one on each side.
The hood has the remains of Massey Ferguson on it but I didn't see any model markings.

Thanks Neal

Sounds like it could be a MF135 Special. Serial number sould be recorded on plate attached to the battery support bracket or on the lower left side of the instrument panel according to my operator's manual.

Brian

Thanks for the info. I will check those locations. I looked at photos of Massey 35 and 50 in the gallery here and a 135 in the photo ads. The grill of the 135 is very different from the one I'm looking at. I would say it looks more like the 35 or 50. Also in the picture of the 50 I can see the oil filter sticking up from the right side of the engine same as the tractor I'm looking at. On the 35 picture I can't see well enough to tell if the filter is the same or not. The serial# will tell for sure.

Thanks Again Neal

Neal, Check the serial number on the dash. If it starts out TO, it's a TO-35 (which it sounds like). If it starts out MF, it's a MF-35. The TO was the forerunner of the MF-35 and some of them did have a two stage clutch (live power take off).I think that the hydraulics will work without the pto engaged. I think that an option on TO was power steering. Most MF's that I"ve seen had spinout rear wheels and don't have a pan type seat, it's more of a modern type with a seperate backrest. Both should have a Z134 Continental engine if their gas powered. Bring the serial number to the board to find out year of mfg. Don't see too many MF-50's, as I recall they had a funny (different) hood ornament, but are probably a little newer. The others will tell you if I missed on anything. L8R----Fred
