Just to keep my wife happy during the holidays- Bought my 4th 135-ser # 9A 66067 and it doesn't even run but sure is pretty on the trailer

showing 3200 hrs
Diesel w/ ps -no multipower or diff. lock
all new sheet metal except the seat(new cushions)
really good new paint and decals
brand new rear tires-fronts about 60%
new starter
new radiator
all gauges work per seller

Engine has spun a bearing or something-will run about 10 seconds then seize up-really hard on the starter and takes 2 batteries to start. I am going to take it to a dealership and probably get them to completely overhaul the engine.

paid $4000-expect the rebuild to be $1500-so about $5500 invested with a new engine.

Is that about right?

Does anyone have the year model handy?

Will I still be truthful when I tell my wife it is a good deal?

Greg the 135 diesels ocasionally had a nasty habit of breaking a weld that holds the oil pickup tube to the oil pump causing loss of oil pressure. That is how I ended up with a 135. It was rebuilt by myself under the guidance of a very knowlegable friend. Parts, machining, pistons, liners, valves, guides, gaskets etc cost about 1500
Unless it is a simpler fix than I'm thinkin, it will cost more than that to rebuild the entire engine. You will still have a great machine.
Good luck
Gary

"69 model I do believe.

I wouldn"t continue to try to start it. Great potential to do more (and costly) damage.

I"d be amased if a dealer will do complete overhaul, inc. parts and machine work for $1500. Expect $2500+

Yer on yer own with the wife. I"m still trying to convince mine what a great deal I got on my last tractor. (and she ain"t buyin" what I"m sellin")

Good for you! Show your wife the finer points of the tractor first and then tactfully evade any questions concerning 'how much'!!!!!
Don't worry, we'll visit your grave!!!
Good luck

I agree. $4000 and needing the engine done seems a little high for a 69 model. Get a quote from the dealer on the engine first. Sometimes they will add some hours if they can. If they give a quote it keeps them more honest and if it needs more work once they take it apart, they can inform you. Don't be surprised if the cost is more than double your original figure. The good thing is you will have an as new tractor and one of the best at that. Dave

I knew I was on the high side but I thought $1500 would get the rebuild. The "I thought" was the problem. But-I've lost more trading horses. Gotta do something with all this great wealth(not). There is a MF dealership near here that I trust (Hourigan's in Gravel Switch, KY-Eugene is a good guy) in so I'll just take it over there and tell him to fix it and not tell me what it cost until I pick it up. That way I don't have to be sick but once.

Even if I end up with $7000 in it I won't be much if any over what they have a tractor like it priced at the dealerships around here. Actually it is looks better than any I remember seeing. The slick paint job got me I guess.

I also forgot to mention the hydraulics have just been gone through recently. The seller told me he had $5500 in it and I don't doubt it.

Thanks for all the info.

If any of y'all know a marriage counselor that likes little red tractors please let me know.

Thanks, Greg

Greg,
Make sure the hyd lift lever is not all the way back. If the lever is back and in constant pump it will be hard to turn over. I had this happen to me after some kids played on my 135.
