About one month ago I posted a message. I have a 1963 MF-35 that had no spark. I had replaced everything I could think of and still had no spark. I received a lot of troubleshooting tips from people on this site. Things started to point to a bad condenser, even though that was one of the first parts I replaced. Appears that the first condenser I bought was bad. Tried another new one and the tractor fired right up. Thanks to everyone who responded to my problem. I learned so much that will help me the next time.

I think sometimes, for me, replacing the part fixes the problem because I get a better connection when I"m being careful and putting in a new part. In other words, sometimes the problem may not have been the part, but the installation, or the other work around that area that might have knocked something askew. Not saying that was your problem, but I have seen that situation. I know that has been the case because I have saved that part and used it in an emergency on another vehicle later and it worked!

A lot of years ago, my wife's Pontiac died while she was driving. I replaced points, plugs, rotor, distributor cap, and wires. Nothing! My dad asked if I had replaced the condenser, and I laughed and said "No, those things don't go out", but I had bought it when I bought the other stuff, but working in the cold, I didn't take the time to replace it. I guess you know the rest of the story. I am 63 and I have had two condensers fail in my lifetime. The second time I took no chances, I replaced it first and the MG started. I guess it's the old "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me" thing. It didn't fool me twice.

I had a similar experience several years ago. My 85-year old father-in-law asked me if I had replaced the condensor. I told him I did. He told me to buy another and install it. I did so but thought he must be nuts. Wrong! That simple little part makes a big difference and just because it is new doesn't mean it works!
