Appreciate any suggestions to help my 135 run smoother. When first started up it sputters and misses and gasps a few times. Then smooths out a little but even after an hour or more seems to miss some. Choking helps some sometime. Seems like it runs rich at times or runs very cold. Could be timing? It does pull good under load, but still has occasional, random miss.

Buy a container of high quailty carb/fuel system cleaner, add to gas tank prior to refilling. All Ferguson gas engines run rich unloaded, this is because they are designed to use fuel for additional cooling under heavy load. If you've done everything else previously suggested without improvement, the fuel system is all that remains. I even had to remove the fuel bowl from the carb on my 1973 NF135 and spray everything, including all orfices and passages with cleaner. Removing the carb entirely is not necessary, the bowl will drop down without problems. Just watch the float and fuel intake valve when you remove the piviot pin. they will drop onto the ground if you are not very carefull.

you probably have 3 cylinder perkins

a lot of things impact on smooth running, until you have checked out the basics you are wasting your time trying to pinpoint something

make sure the points are clean and properly adjusted, check the plugs and wires, empty all that trash out of the air cleaner, make sure you have fresh gas that wants to burn, try some carb cleaner in the gas

then if you haven"t got it fixed already, you have a good base to start looking for the problem, these are great tractors

It sounds like a carb problem but your tractor couldn't be a 135 if it's a 1963. Check your air cleaner. It might be partially blocked or ignition might need some new parts. Dave

Thanks. It is a 1974 MF 135. My IH 340 is a 1963.
