Multipower Problem

Is there anyway to check the multipower pressure from the auxillary pump or at the multipower clutch pack? Is the pressure regulator for this circuit located at the pump or at the control valve. My service manual shows some type of pressure regulator at the pump but other places it looks like it is at the control valve in the bellhousing. I am having problems with the multipower working when it is cold (works fine when warmed up) and am trying to diagnose where the problem is. Any idea's on where to start or sequence to troubleshoot? Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Curt

If the 175 is similiar to the 65 the first thing to do is check the pump screen, take the plate off on the side of tran/rear end where the pto engaging lever is and take the metal screen of and clean it. If you are lucky it might help.

What model tractor are you working on? The early tractors with multi-power did not have a place to connect a guage to check the pump output pressure. The later tractors - 165, 175-did.

The pressure regulator valve is located on the pump itself. There is not pressure regulation at the control valve. This valve simple directs the flow of oil through the MP clutch pack or by-passes it back into the transmission housing.

The Tractor is a 175 diesel. Thanks for the info. I will try and find the pressure test port for the multipower. Maybe the pressure relief is sticking when cold or the control valve bypass is not operating correctly when cold. The remotes work fine cold or warm which leads me to believe that the suction inlet filter for the auxiliary pump is ok. This problem started after I installed new sealing rings on the input shaft and new o-rings on the multipower control valve spool.

The pressure port is located on the output line coming out of the top of the clutch bell housing. There are two of these lines that both go to the front of the tractor to the oil cooler and the oil filter. There should be a tee fitting on the output line right after it exits the housing. It should have a cap on the side port of the tee. Remove the cap and connect an appropriate pressure guage.

If both lines have a tee in them, you will need to determine which line is the output line.

I suspect your problem is not the relief valve or the control valve. I suspect you have damaged disks in the clutch pack. This is located in the rear housing of the tractor and cannot be inspected without removing it.

If you have a service manual, it tells exactly the procedure for checking the system. The pump relief valve is set at the factory. The auxillary hydraulic connectors on the back of the tractor get their oil from the big pump that operates the 3 point hitch. The multipower system gets it's oil from a piggy-back pump mounting on top of this big pump.

I hope this helps you out.
