Well, our 8N is now officially sold! I thought we were going to a Asian compact but with the addition of two more ponies we're needing a round bale capable model on the cheap. I found a gas powered MF135 w/a heavy duty Freeman loader. It has 1100hrs and the dealer says it runs great. Original paint shows that it has been pampered. Anything that I need to know about these??? He says they all had a diff lock. Is this correct? I hope so as we need it (as a minimum). Is it beefy enough to move 4x5 round bales around?

Thanks,
Mike

Not ALL 135's had the differential lock. If there is a third petal on the right side of the tractor, behind your right foot, you've got the diff. lock. If not, you don't. Tim

As stated check for a warrenty option, and not all have differ lock, same as not all have a 2 stage clutch, 135 specials are single i believe.[ stand to be corrected on that ie: big Dean's site]
also a 2 stage could have the ground speed option, besides the live PTO.
good common tractor for parts and service.
good luck

135's are possibly the most sought after tractor. It would pick up a 4 x 5 bale. I wouldn't want to use it all the time for bales unless I had a 3 pt. bale spear. The loader would keep the front end down. We had an 8N and upgraded to a 135. I wouldn't trust the 1100 hours on the meter though. If it's correct the tractor is just broke in. If it's at a dealer get a 30 to 90 day warrantee. If they won't, maybe there not being honest about the originality of the tractor. What price are they asking? If everything seems authentic I'd sure really consider it. Good luck Dave

I had a MF-236 loader on my MF-135. It was beefy enough to pick up 6x6 round bales, but even with the back tires filled to the max with CaCl, the back tires only touched the ground half the time. It was hard on the front axle balancing the whole tractor and load on it. And some previous owner broke that front axle and welded it back together. After my experiences with one time of loading round bales, the next time I needed it done, I hired a neighbor with a bigger tractor and after that I sold them without me moving or loading them.

I think my 135 is a little light for round bales on the loader. It would help if the loader holds them close to the radiator. I think you want a bigger tractor yet.

the dreaded 2 stage clutch adjustment is the main hassle - not really easy to do. just see Big Dean for details.

I have a 135 with Perkins gas and wouldn't trade it for anything. The are also available with Continental gas and Perkins diesel. Mine has differential lock - not all do. You'll get lots of replies, and most of them quiet positive.
