The only negative that I could add is that many 245's smoked a fair bit on startup particularily in colder climates. Many of them had their pistons changed for the earlier 135 type by the selling dealers to avoid complaints.

Great tractor, diesel has more power than it needs. Actually the power steering has the 'potential' to be a problem. One I have has over 4100 hours and had to get the power steering cylinder rebuilt about two years ago, parts were pricey, $600+ for the cylinder, no one rebuilds them aftermarket. If this is a fairly low hour tractor it shouldn't be a problem. Watch the tie-rod end movement, running, while moving the steering wheel slightly. The tie rods are part of the cylinder shaft and are not replacable individually. Our other 245 has about 1600 hours with no steering probs. Neither has multi-power, one 6 speed, one 8 speed, I actually like the 6 speed better. Do a search for 245 on this page and read up, go to fastline dot com to get a general idea of selling prices in your area. Dry brakes don't have great stopping power but are ok for light work. I don't think you can beat one for its size.

I carry the rebuild kits for the 245 cylinder and cylinder rods new. I am working on getting the cylinder at this time. This site buys parts from us sometimes but I don't know if they buy these parts yet.

Excellent tractor! An updated 135 with better power steering. A lot more than a garden tractor. Check it out first though. They were made from about 76 or 77 and well into the 80's. If it's a diesel, it's even better. Dave
