I own a great 1950 "22". Runs great & looks great, except:carburetor / engine "hunting" problem. I've installed new gas lines, new rebuilt carb, tightened governor linkage, and it still hunts at speeds above 25% throttle. My neighbor is retired experienced engine mechanic & he can't figure it out either. What to do?

I'm not an expert on this particular model but this problem can be caused by the governor being oversensitive, which is usually caused by the linkage being out of adjustment. Try adjusting the throttle control link to open the butterfly a little more (whichever direction it is)at a given setting. It should reduce the sensivity.

I have a '46 20 that has a tendency to do the same thing. It's now in a 1000 pieces, totally dismantled so I will keep the responses to your question here on file for when things get back together. Meanwhile, I have a question about something that only someone with an assembled tractor could answer and since mine is totally apart I am afraid to go ahead with a little welding support for the battery platform because I don't know if it is going to be in the way of something when I reassemble. Could you email me at:

and we'll get in contact? Thank you ..... MB.

I had a similar problem with my 44 Special.
Took it to a mechanic friend who made a very
minor adjustment on the main jet. Made all the
difference in the world. Lots of power just by getting that valve turned to the exact spot, not
too far to the left or right. Try finding another tractor mechanic, one who use to work on these old continental engines.
They can tell the proper carb setting by reving the engine and listening to the sound. Money well spent to eliminate a big agrivation.

P.S. not saying anything about your mechanic, just never hurts to get a second opinion, or second pair of ears.
