Could someone help me with the model and year of my new (old) tractor. I just purchased a (supposedly 40HP MF Industrial Tractor) I should be a 40B, the Ser # is 9A I99350. I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know the year and verify the model. I will be working on the hydraulics and the power stearing.

Merlin, The tractor in the"Official Guide" shows
up as a 40 built in 1974. Gross HP 42 as used by
industrial tractors. It has 38 PTO HP if it has a
PTO. These were good tractors if cared for. Chuck

I think I read you were an MF dealer. Does your guide tell how many 135's were made? I've been trying to find out. Thanks Dave

Shame on you Chuck ! "A few were built in the UK" ? 270,113 to be precise along with 3,724 MF 2135 Industrials and 5,725 MF 20"s (essentialy an updated 2135) and as far as I can make out 30,525 MF 135"s were built in France and 14,725 were built in Spain, also I beleive it"s not possible to get accurate production numbers for U.S. built tractors because of the numbering system. Cheers Ali.

I knew the UK numbers because of sequential serial numbers. I was told 94013 US models from Adrian Powell at Agco but this number seems low. Maybe he saw the 90713 for later UK models and made a mistake. I'm glad someone finally has some info. Uk models were shipped in knockdown and partial knockdown form to other countries who made a lot of the components. I don't know if these used the same serial numbers. On later US brochures it claims them as the biggest selling single model and most popular. Someone pointed out that the Fordson was most popular ever. They were made in France into the eighties. I have the world wide guide to MF 100 and 1000 tractors. It lists at least 18 different models and a couple more if you seperate some standard gas and diesel models. I'm also curious what the difference is between the French built 140. It seems to have the same specs. I know the 148 is the same with a 7 inch spacer for a cab. Any more info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dave

Dave, the MF 148 would appear to be basically a 135 with spacer but the fuel pump was tweacked to give 50 bhp, it also sold in the UK with 32" rear wheels and as such was also fitted with the "control beam" top link attachment as in the 65/165. I too have the world wide guide to MF and looking at the 140 it would appear to be almost exactly a UK 135, but why call it something different? Also it"s worth remembering that I think at the time, Banner Lane was the biggest tractor factory in the world. Cheers, Ali.

I read that Banner lane was the largest tractor assembly plant in the world. Over 3.2 million tractors were produced there. It closed in 2002. I think production was moved to the Beavais? factory in France. The 135 and 140 were both built at the same time. I don't know why they closed the Banner lane factory. Dave

A 135 fan is a smart man. A large auction firm in
the
upper midwest some years ago said in an article that the 35 and 135
were the most sought after tractor on their sales.
Anyway any books I have do not answer the question
A few were built in the UK but almost all in Mich.
'64-65 production 14,870 '66 figures I don't have,
67-74 197,680 built '75 I don't have but a guess
would be 25,000. About the same guess for '66.
Anyway popular tractor. Chuck
