Pinions take considerable stress, when tearing down you may not have found the shims, since they either never existed, or were chewed up with the years of shaft play. Having replaced MH pinion shafts, the banks, carriers, are tedious to keep you switching shim thickness, number, to get a
proper, snug fit throughout. The wear factor on old iron, makes you test your patience, take a
break, do some other work, to relax. Good luck placing shims, it's an exercise.
