A friend of mine in Wisconsin was recently asking me about the Wheatland model of the Massey-Harris 44 series. I knew that they were built on the "standard" chassis, were mostly a pull-type workhorse with no 3 point hitching system, but other than that, I was unsure how the Wheatland model really differed much from the "standard" Massey-Harris 44. Can you Massey-Harris guys elaborate a bit on what the Wheatland model was all about?
Thank you sincerely in advance, MH44-Special in Oregon.

I believe what you think is a wheatland model with the 44 is just a std with wheatland fenders as in the big ones that cover the whole tire. Std models were offered with the smaller fenders too, they arent as small as the rc but they dont cover the whole the tire.

The difference between the rowcrop and standard was the full fenders, smaller rear rims with fat tires, a different floor, front axle that is non adjustable, and that is pretty much it.

Oh yeah, I forgot the rear axle is adustable on the rowcrop, and the rear hubs of course are different too.

Actually, I don't think I have ever officially "seen" the wheatland designation in any publication like a serial number list, reference book, etc. I think there might have been other makes that used the term, I just don't remember Massey officially using it. I have heard of "wheatland fenders" on Masseys, once again maybe it was just a term that was applied to those big fenders that cover the whole top of the tire. Keeps you from falling into the tire when you fall asleep on those Indian summer harvest days when you can see nothing but grain for 15 miles.
