I bought a massey 65 diesel earlier this year. It had been setting for a while and we had to pry the engine loose, It ran fine for about two months. We were baling hay when all of a sudden the engine block seemed to get real hot because the oil that was on the outside started smoking. It happened real fast an about thirty seconds when it quit running and we could not get it to turn over any more, by any means. I do not know what happened. I am guessing it might have overlapped a bearing or something, but before I opened it, I wanted to see if anyone knew if there might be something else that could cause this.. Thanks for any help

I rebuilt my MK2,65 about 3yrs ago, after running for 3/4 hr retensioning head & reseting tappetts ,panel work refitted ready to run in on dyno it wouldnt start apeard to have hydralicd,on loosening injectors this wasnt the problem,so after droping the sump l found broken liner from no4,machinest at fault, also had head gasket trouble since found piston to top deck hight insuficant, once again machinest SO BEWARE when reassembling recheck machineist's work,as for lock up's did your oil pressure flucuate? as this is a sign of bearing's,and/or oil pump, also you would notice maybe knocking which could be gudgion pins/bushes,a good rebuild cost me $2500 that was a hambuger with the lot rebuild at 30,000+ hrs,so for a small expence rebuild it then you know what youve got

I have a small Cat loader with a 3204 engine. My oil pan got bent and the engine starved for oil. It spun a rod bearing and that caused it to seize up. The main bearings were bad also. The cylinders were still OK but since I had to pull the engine I had it totally rebuilt with 3 ring pistons instead of only 2 that it came with. The shop I took it to said bearings will usually go before the pistons seize. It cost around $7000 Canadian for a 65 HP engine. It was bored out and an exchange head put on. Hope yours isn't as costly. Maybe you'll just have to do bearings once you fix what caused it? I was lucky because my crankshaft didn't need to be ground. After 16.5 hours the gear teeth on the oil pump broke so I had to pull the engine again. It was warrantee but I still had to pull it out myself. Not a fun job in the field. Good luck Dave

Does the oil smell like diesel fuel?? If it does you may have had a seal in the injector pump go bad on you and that will cause that type of problem. Some how diesel doesn't make for a good engine lube and will lock one up in a heart beat. I had an Allis XT190 that had that problem and I fixed the injector pump and got it freed up by filling the cylinders with turpentine. After it popped loose and had new seals and a rebuilt injector pump is ran good and didn't smoke or use oil
