I have a MF 3165 (gas), probably 40 years old.My problem arrived yesterday when 3-point hitch stopped working. The arms are stucked in middle position and won"t move up nor down, even under pressure. Hyadraulic system does not respond to either Draft Control Lever nor Position Control Lever. I had a similar problem two years ago whe the arms were just hanging down and would not go up. Somehow the problem corrected itself over night and everithing functioned well until now. If there is anyone out there that could help, your advice would be greatly appreciated. Josef

Hi Sailor There are a few things that can cause that problem 1. If you have a valve mounted on the liftcover just in front of the seat be sure it did not get bump from the position for the three point to work. 2. The piston to ram arm rod it is usually called a dog bone because it looks like a bone. It may have bounced out of the cylinder if the three point happen to bounce up they will do that sometimes and the piston end catch on the housing holding the lift arms up part way. 3. The control valve may be stuck and the linkage can not move it to operate the lift. now and then they will get a little piece of trash in them and wedge them so the control valve cannot move 4. the linkage may have broke or bent inside the liftcover I have found all of these things causing the problem you are having with your three point If I can be of further help Email me

Thanks for your input Big Dean. I think the problem could be #2. Will I have any problems removing the cover? I think the tractor is a bit older than 40 years. I know the engine has been re-built or replaced in 1973. I also found a serial # 1140214118 and a Model #200 . According to my manual there are two types of valve covers.
Mine is approx. 7/8' thick at the frond end. Then there is this other one that is 1-1/8" thick, but that would not apply to me. I don't have a valve in front of the front seat. The quadrant has the position and draft controls, and is located on the right side of the seat, with the response control just below. The hydraulic lift cover is mounted on top of the center housing, beneath the seat. Then ,if I remove the cover I'll probably damage the gasket, and that might be hard to replace. I do not have any special tools reqired for adjustments, but as you said we don't know what the problem is. The only way to find out is to have a look. Any suggestions?? Thanks in an advance. Sailor
