Was baling hay with a 699 today, idling in gear with the petal down when the tractor decides to go! I took the inspection plate off the bottom and found one of the connections to one of the levers had broken off. the lever is intact, but the piece that connects the plate assembly to the lever has a broken end where it attaches to the lever. Is this piece a replaceable link or is it cast with the plate? thanks for any replies, mw

Hi, the problem you have described is quite common on MF clutches...there is usually only one fault that causes the link to break and that is lack of clutch pedal free play...the links are available seperately and you don't have to replace the whole clutch assembly, however when you have the tractor split you should inspect the whole clutch and see what other parts are worn to avoid having to split againif you do "a cheap job"..happy splitting...Regards...Geoff

Hi,
If I understand you correctly you are saying that the 'figure 8' plate which is attached to the release lever has broken away at the other end. The lug which is part of the main pressure plate has broken. I'm assuming that it is a dual clutch system. Similar plates for 35-175 etc are readily available in gen and non-gen form. I do not have any information for your 13" clutch other than the MF number for the complete unit which is 3599 492 M91. These units are available from non-gen sources as well. It may well be advisable to go for a replacement unit.

DavidP, It is a single disc clutch, has an independent pto. Looking up thru the inspection plate opening, I can only see the broken end at the lever. can't see the other end. If the Piece is cast into the plate, I will have to replace thepressureplate, cost looks to be about $300. Thats why I'm hoping the piece is replaceable.mw

Hello,
If it is a Spicer-Laycock clutch parts may be available. It seems like you have little alternative other to split the tractor and remove the clutch. Have a look for any firms that carry out clutch rebuilds/re-linings. They usually have access to parts that you probably would not. Could be a lot cheaper than a MF replacement.
