I like the looks of the V-8's. I remember talking to someone who worked for Massey not a dealer but MF itself. He said they had some problems with injection pumps but was easily fixed with a water seperator installed. A long time MF mechanic said they weren't as good as the 6 cylinder engines partly due to the fact they rev. too fast. If you slow down the RPMs you would get better life out of them. Just thought I'd pass this on.

Re: HELP STARTING A COLD MF 275 in reply to SCHAP, 11-01-2006 09:43:16
Hello,
To heat old tractor engines on cold morning (I have a MF178), I usually use the internal heater fitted on the air input pipes (As I'm French, I don't know exactly technical words).
But to help heating on very cold days, I also use sometimes a hair dryer. I open air input rubber pipe just before the engine and "plug" the hair dryer output into it.
I wait for few minutes then switch starter on.
It normally starts well.
But you need to park tractor near a power socket.
Try it.
Regards.
Eric

I think the 2745 is a 540 cu. inch and the 2775 and 2805 are 640 cu. inch. I think the mechanic said they rev at 25 or 2800 rpms. They do rev faster than the 6 cylinder tractors.

Hi 135,
how.s it going?
I hope good today, I hope it,s not cold as it is here in kansas,
Yea they do rev higher than the six,s, but ahh what music especially when they have twin pipe,s as this 1155 had that I drove at a dealer,
Mannn O mann, this thing was a hot rod to be sure and If I was outside i could have probably heard it for a mile or so,
But I was inside the cab, and I was so enamored by the noise and driving it,
that i forgot to put it into multipower for road gear,
and I was only going about 12 mph, at 2,400 rpm,s,
so I realized that i was not in Multi, and i had to give it back to the dealer in the side lot,
I was wanting to get it bad, But this elderly man wanted about 12,000 for it , as It had new paint, decal,s,
cab kit, tranny and rear end redone,
And duall,s too,
it sat there for close to a year, and then a person from down south came and got it for 9000,00,
It was in russell kansas if you wanna know,
I was really let down,
as I wanted it but I didnt wanna pay that 12,000 cause that,s way too much for a 77 model,
So, Ive been looking at different one,s , and havent found any that are decent,
I guess when I dont look, then their will be one and Ill be able to get it,
thanks alot for getting back to me so soon, Kirk C,

Kirk, Take it for what it is worth. I have 2 MF and they are both good tractors. I DO NOT have a V8 model. I have heard bad things about them though. I understand that the heads gave a lot of problems. Most people that I hear of use the V8 models for tracor pulling now days. They tear them down every year and rebuild them. Just my 2 cents worth. Maybe something along the 6 cylinder models may be better.
