TO35 REWIRE project, HELP!

Hello, I just got this TO35. Been sitting a while. I started tearing into the wiring to check items and clean connections. Question is this. Does the distributor need to be changed if going to 12V? I assume the voltage regulator controls the voltage. Below I explain what was on the tractor when I dragged it home.

The generator is 12V (checks good)missing gearing for tractometer.
The coil is 6V (marked but not checked yet).
I assume the voltage regulator is 6V (see no markings).
The battery that was on it is a 6V.

If I need to simply change the coil and voltage regulator I think I'll convert to 12V as I re-wire.
