Hi all, I've just bought a 1959 MF 35 with the four cylinder diesel and it could do with a new battery. What sort of size/spec am I looking for? Many thanks, tractorsam

Sam:

I just bought 2 new batteries for my MF-35s with Perkins diesels from TSC. TSC has 2 different batteries to fit the battery box, one a 750 CCA, the other a 925 CCA. The price difference is only about $5.00 but the performance difference is substantial.

Check your battery cables when you replace the battery. If it does not have good 1 GA or larger cables replace them. Anything smaller is not large enough and cranking speed will suffer. Finally, attach the ground cable directly to a starter mounting bolt not to the battery box or dash mount.

It seems that the largest battery that'll fit in the box is the way to go. At the moment it seems to have welding cables to hook up the battery but the ground is currently connected to one of the bolts that secures the engine to the gearbox on the injector pump side. I think that's going to be a project for after I've sorted out some of the other issues. Many thanks, tractorsam
