Will a 175MF and a 5800 Heston roll baler make a good setup for about 40 acres of hay on rolling, sometimes steep Ky knobland?

Anything special to watch out for when buying either of these machines?

Thanks, Greg

Thanks,

My name is a little different because I am on a different computer.

I was afraid the baler would be too big.

The 175 looks to have been taken care of except it looks like it set outside most of the time. Heavy duty loader with 6' bucket and hay spear-uses internal hydrolics, wheel weights, good to excellent tires, no multi-power, 3 speed trans-hi/low, all guages and tach work except fuel, hood has been replaced with a 180 hood-not sure why, motor seems stought-a little white smoke wile reving(sp?)the motor-a very slight "loping" while idling, lift appears to have not been used much, no leaks to amount to anything. p/s tight compared to most I have been around(don't really know if p/s is called hydrostatic but has the pump on side and hoses to stearing column, with no leaks)lights not working-$5300 delivered with full tank

Good Deal?

When I was in high school my family bought a brand new Massey 283 2wd(67 hp) to run our Gehl 1475 TDC baler, which made up to 4x5 silage bales. It worked well even with the live power. We also had a late model 175 that dynoed at 75hp with the eight speed, we did use it on the baler a few times and it worked fine, but the 283 had a rops and canopy that made it nicer to bale with on our hilly NY farm. 175's are great tractors, I'd buy one in a second if I could find one diesel with multipower and 38 inch rubber. or a 180 which is the same as a 175 except it has a platform type operators station.

boy Greg, I live here in east Tn. and know about those hills and knobs. I do think that a 175 Massey would not have the weight to hold the 5800 baler safely. As this baler is a load empty. You would do much better with a 4x4 baler or 4x5. I just sold a 5800,hesston and it is a big baler. also I would make sure the 175 is a 8 speed late model with wet brakes and hydrostatic steering. my thoughts, Buford
