It all seemed to start about 2 weeks ago. I took apart my hydraulic valve to change a long blown seal that I decided needed to be done. While I was at it I canged the seals in the pump, so I basically took apart the whole front end. Well I knew it was going to be awhile to get it back together because I had to get O rings so I started the tractor as it was. I didnt need the fan for cooling because I would only run it for 3 minutes to move it about 3 feet to the left to get my lawnmower out of the shop. Well I started the tractor with no problem but then I backed over the bottle of drain oil and it caught on the drawbar and dumped. I got off to move the mess and then the tractor stalled from lack of fuel. Ok, thats fine. At least I can get the mower out. Mowed the grass and it got dark so i parked the mower back in the shop and headed in for the night. Came out the next morning and this nagging was at the back of my head to look at the tractor for something I forgot to do. Yep, left the ignition on...overnight. You know the drill, dead battery. So dead there was no juice whatsoever. Stuck a charger on it for about 5 hours while at work and came back and the lights worked. About a week later I got the pump and hydraulics back together and went to start the tractor. I turned over very weakly and wouldnt start. I jumped it from my 44 and it started right up. Took it for a run to charge the battery and parked it in the shed. I went to use it last saturday and it wouldnt start. Jumped it again, used it, shut it off and tried to restart. Nothing. I brought out my trickle charger and put it on for 36 hours. It turned over briskly for about 2 seconds and quickly lost power. Not long enough to start the tractor though. Took the caps off and added distilled water to the cells and it still does the same thing after 36 hrs of charging. Now my question is, New Battery time? Or is it something that can be fixed. the load tester says that the battery is bad, but the hydrometer says its fair to good. The tractor starts fine with the hand crank but I hate to push my luck for too long. Plus its a pain. What do you guys say on this?
Thanks in advance!!
Frank

Thanks for the bad news guys! J/K ;) I ordered a new battery today and they said it should be in by tomoro.
Daniel, I think the syrup will taste better on pancakes than the battery would! Cant wait!

Frank,
you want a battery instead of the syrup?

You killed the battery. It won't ever take enough charge to start. The lead sulfate that's made when you discharge is larger than the lead sponge it started from and taking it all the way down warped the plates and probably several broke off if the lead sulfate didn't just fall to the bottom of the cell. A starting battery can't stand being run down.

Buy a new battery, then no pain.
