Hello guys, I currently have a 62 Fordson Super Major. I HATE working on diesels, I have been for almost 10 years and am sick of it. I am going to sell my Fordson and put that money into a better GAS tractor. A tractor dealer has a 444 Gas for sale with 3PT, PTO, and it runs good. He wants $1900 for the tractor. Im not sure of what year it is. I have been researching the 444 but havent found alot other than pictures. I am really liking the looks of the 444, and the potential it has. SO.... How much HP is this tractor rated at? Does it have power steering? it looks like it has pressure hoses going to the steering shaft so it power steering??? It has a wide front end. What are the pros and cons of a 444. Mostly I want to use a 5" bush hog to mow 7 acres, and plow the other 33 acres with a 3 bottom plow. I pull logs now and then to cut them up. What do you guys think?

Good tractor! Will do everything you are wanting to do with ease. Parts are hard to get, but they are out there. Make sure it has no knocks in the motor as bearings are one of the hardest things to find. I just rebuilt a 277 engine and found everything on the net. There are several guys on here who can supply you with engine, hydraulic, electrical parts. Nice thing about this tractor is 10 speed trans. Price is not bad if it runs well and does not smoke.

Thanks guys!, I am going to call that dealer tonight or tommorow and see if he will let me trade my Fordson in and get some cash towards that 444. I really like how it looks, and from what you guys say, it will be a great tractor. I am already having SEVERE difficulty getting parts for the fordson, so the 444 will hopefully be easier to get parts for, even if it is still tough to do so. The Dealer has another 444 for cheaper that says "Uses Oil"... I am a pretty good mechanic, I was a heavy equipment mech for the Army for 3 yrs, then I worked at a Tractor Trailer shop for about 7 yrs doing engine work, tranny work and so on, I am wondering if this tractor is fixable with a new set of rings, and a tune up. But it could be more than rings... like valve guides, or head gasket?? Anyways, about me... Im only 27 yrs old. I moved to the country when I met my wife 4 yrs ago, she owns this 40 acre plot, and has entrusted me to keep it in shape...lol Her dad showed me the ropes as far as tractors go, and now im after that 444, I dont know what it is, but I LOVE old tractors!!! SO FUN!!!! Thanks again!!
