MF 300 Steering

I just bought a 1966 Massey MF 300 and the steering is very slow. You need to turn the well a lot to get a result and when it does it turns very hard. I have been told by the seller the power steering pump needs to be rebuilt. Im wondering if it is in the box under the steering wheel or the actuall pump.

Dave, I see no one has responded. Maybe there are
too many 300's in the MF line. Besides a combine,
there is a 300 crawler, a 300 loader(which # is
more visible than the tractor which is either a
302 or 304 or 50 series) I can't recall today
where the s/n plate but on left hand side of dash,
or side of battery shell. Most of these have an
external seperate ps pump but also steering cyls
which may need a kit(not too difficult)These don't
nec leak outward but by the pistons inside. Later
years wouldn't you know they have ag. 300 series.
