Hello all...Justin here from NW PA. I"ve been looking for a good deal on a small baler for my TO-35, and I picked one up at auction today. All I know is its a MH3 square baler. It is in ok for shape for its age, no major rust-out or broken parts. The knotters, though, have been taken apart. Looks like someone diassembled them and then gave up or left it. Not sure at all what is there and what is missing.

Please...any input on this baler is welcome. Where can I get information? I will pick up manuals (I see the service manual on this site. I also found an owners manual on eBay.) Am I in for an expensive repair on the knotters?

Thanks!
Justin

Seems MHF sold many #3 balers through the 60's
which ran quiet, but were common trades on the Deere square baler, with kicker, by '70. Finding a
parked one, for parts should not be too difficult.
The earliest ones, I believe, even carried the MH
yellow decal, probably 1957. Good luck.

Thanks...any idea where I can go on the web to get more info on these? Also, how could I find out the year (I have SN)?

Justin

Hi Justin, I have a #3 which i use every year to some degree, the small bales are popular with my "horse lady customers". I have had very few problems over the years with it. As Harris Guy says used parts should be cheap and easy to find, try to pick up the entire Knotter assembly rather than trying to figure out all the bits and pieces. You will need the manuals to set it up. The Dealer should be able to come up with year from ser.# If you need any help email me. JJ.

Thanks JJ, sounds like I need to start a search for some used parts. One question, mine is an MH#3. In my searching I know that older versions were called MF#3. Would there be any differences between the Massey Ferguson and Massey Harris versions? Or was it just a name change?

If anyone out there knows of a good used parts place in West PA/NY or East Ohio please let me know.

This is my first baler (ran one a few years with my grandfather), so I'm excited to get it going (my wife thinks I'm crazy).

Thanks again!

With the merger/transition of MHF, to MF, most
detail appears unusual. The MH #3 had yellow decals, the MF #3 foil(silver/chrome) decals. The
knotter assembly is probably the same on all #3's,
unless some update was needed. Your parts are on
a 45+ year old baler, rusting near a tree. An MF
dealer or NH baler restorer may know of a farm location with a #3 parked, waiting for you. These
are not hot items, like tractors, to parts guys.
Any local AG paper to post an ad, 'Wanted MF #3
square parts baler'? Good luck.
