What's the best way to unsieze the clutch after it sat idle since last year? Didn't realize we could lock the clutch open until this year. Anything to be careful with and are there any quick, easy tricks?

The clutch on my 550 combine quit working while thrashing grain in 2005, the throw out bearing had frozen up and wore the fingers off the pressure plate. Had to replace the whole thing. Its been awhile so I can't remember every detail exactly, but I know I had to remove the drive belt pully then take the clutch apart and install new clutch plate, pressure plate and throw out bearing and it seems like there is another bearing in there also that I replaced. It wasn't a real hard clutch to replace, seemed farely easy, no real problems with it once I got started. Ordered the parts from local massey dealer, they came out of Iowa so had to pay some extra for shipping because I needed them quickly, seems like it cost me $300-$350

Does the clutch pedal move when you step on it?

Do the linkages and the throw out bearing move when you press the clutch pedal?

Can you adjust for more throw out bearing movement?

If all of the above is ok then you may have to take the clutch apart to see whats wrong. It is a bit of a job, not difficult but time consuming, especially if it is your (or your son's) first time.

I'd be interested to know what you find. I have changed a few clutch frictions and pressure plates and they usually just wear out and the combine won't move.

You have a standard gear transmission and the clutch is stuck in the engaged position?

Yes. I'm handicapped so I can't give you a lot of details on what the situation is like, I can't get behind the wheel to see the clutch and pulley. But my 23 year-old son and his friend from work that do maintenance there looked at it last night. My son says there is a throw out bearing and there's the expandable pulley, I guess. So where is it really stuck? Tried to start it Sat. but since the clutch wouldn't disengage and it's in gear, the starter naturally was moving the combine.
