In the process of rebuilding my 1949 Pony and it appears the there is a piece missing in the casting where the starter bolts on on the front side of the casting exposing the the starter casting over the drive!! This is on the center casting where it bolts to the engine block!! Is there a piece missing??

The starter bolts into the "bellhousing" casting with 3 bolts. It bolts into an area which should form a complete circle. Above the nose of the installed starter should be a flat area that holds the front gas tank support. Looking directly from above, you should not see the starter drive area.
