I recently aquired what I belive is an old Allis model 2 plow on rubber. Are any of you familiar with this plow? I hooked it up and ever thing worked. I was shocked.
Anyway I was also happy to find that the 30 easily yanked this plow through the ground. Just wondering what gear you all plow in with your massey's I was running around in 2nd, I might be able to do 3rd, but i didn't have enough room i was testing it in the garden by the house.

It depends a lot on the type of soil you are plowing. In our area the soil has a fair bit
of clay in it and I find that my M-H 30 Row Crop
plows this type of soil best in 2nd gear.

It is a Row Crop and I just finished putting on a pair of wheel weights. The soil up here is kinda sandy so I'm thinking it should be fine in 3rd. I still need to find some parts for this plow though, it's missing both the coulters. And I need a rim.

My MH 102 Junior can pull a two bottom plow in third gear.Spent this last Sunday plowing with it for a freind. The MH 30 should have no problem pulling a two bottom plow in third gear if the conditions are good.Plowing in sod I have to travel in second gear with the 102.

Unless you have a row crop with larger wheels, I think you'll find 3rd is the Massey's best gear.

The Nebraska Test also contains a comment that the 30 could pull more in 3rd than in any other gear.

Watch for engine overheating. My current 30 has a radiator off a larger tractor because the previous owner got fed up, and I remember grafting a series of rads off early-sixties Valiants onto the old relic I used in the woods and to run a planer.
