Hi, i just bought a 1130 with a motor knock, I pulled the motor and found the rod bearings to be gone, and the motor clear full of shavings, so i was going to put a 5.9 cummins 12 valve out of a dodge truck in it. I already have the cummins and its been completly rebuilt, the motor will physicaly size wise fit in the tractor, I will just need to build frame rails to connect the tractor halves together which will make the tractor stronger anyhow. The only problem there is to deal with is the flywheel, and adapter plate. I will have to make a adapter plate, no big deal, but the flywheel i will have to figure something out the tractor has a 12" dual disc clutch and the cummins has a 13" single clutch, so i will have to make the 2 flywheels one by machining the centers out, and the mount the hub in the center for the PTO. What do you guys think about this conversion??? Do you think it will hurt the value of the tractor?

I have decieded the cummins won't work just quite right so i am just going to go ahead and dump the 3-4,000 dollars into the perkins and have it rebuilt.

Sell the Cummins or keep it for when your truck dies. The Perkins engine you have is one of the best and a used repacement can be bought for next to nothing. The engine was used in 510, 750 combines and last forever if taken care of. Buy an old combine, put the motor in the 1130 and sell the remaining carcas for scrap iron. IMHO

Good Luck
Merle

PS; If you pickup a 510 do not put your turbo on it, just use the motor as is with a few less ponies.

You sound like you have it all figured out. If it were me I'd sell that cummins and buy remaned Perkins for it. Swap the old Perkins Block for the remaned one. I think you would be money, and time ahead. One thing you did not mention is how you will connect the hydraulic pump. I love 1000 series Masseys and I like Cummins engines. I wouldn't give one red cent for an 1130 without a Perkins.

Yeah i have thought about it, i am still not sure of the idea?? I would have tilt the cummins engine over about 1 1/4 inchis to clear the perkins starter. And for the hydraulic pump i would have to use a rubber flex coupler.
