I am looking at a MF 35. What is the max size of brush hog I could pull with this? Thanks

depending on what you are going to mow, you can easily handle a 6 footer with the power you have and if you wanted to just mow light grass you could probably use a 7 footer. Steep hils can also cause some problems. The bigger concern is the weight of the mower. Some of the heavy duty 6 footers weigh over 1200 lbs and that could cause you to have steering difficulties if you didn't ballast the front end. I have a TO-30 and a % points Mower by KingKutter tht weighs 750 lbs and my tractor can handle it well. It is about at the limit of the three point lift but the lift doesn't have any difficulty with in. The steering is marginal so I will use it with front ballast.

I have two MF-35s, both with 3 cylinder Perkins diesels. I have used both 5 foot and 6 foot bush hogs on these and have found the diesel version easily capable of handling a 6 footer anywhere on my place, some of which is quite steep.

That said, my mowers are not overly heavy. I expect a HD 6 footer would unload the front end too much.

I have no experience with engines other than the Perkins diesel so cannot comment about these.

I've been driving 35s for almost 40 years now, and have had all sorts of mowers on them.

A 5' bush hog works great. About the right weight, and matches the power of the engine well.

I tried a 6' bush hog once. It was so heavy the hydraulics knocked when you lifted it. You could walk around to the front of the tractor and pick it up off the ground with little effort.

So I'd strongly recommend a 5' mower for ya.

I have a 35 with the 3 cyl. diesel. I cut with a 5' but I have had a lot of people tell me they handle a 6' well if the grass is not to tall and heavy. I think the 6' would cover the tire tracks better than the smaller one. Can't get a much better tractor for the size of them.

I have used a 5 foot bush hog on a 35 for several years plenty of power however a double clutch is a must if you're ground is rough or has rocks/trees.
