Does anyone know of an easy way to clean the Aux Hyd Pump screen on an MF180 without having to split the darn thing?? Right now I've got extremely slow aux hyd power to my front end loader. I overfilled it with hyd oil and it seemed to help (by sucking oil from above the pump) a bit, but it is still slow and I don't want to damage my pump!

I agree with Dave. Its not very likely a dirty screen would be the culprit. Usually you can look to the pump when hydraulics are slow. Usually a seal kit or a new pump is needed.

I have a 180 Massey. About five years ago I had trouble with the loader getting slower. Turned out to be a seal in the pump leaking. My manual said to split the tractor to remove the pump. I removed the top transmission cover and you can get the pump out without splitting tractor. Its not easy, but can be done. You can also get at the screen that way, but a dirty screen is very seldom the problem. Hope this helps. Dave

Dave... Did you remove the hydraulic cover (under the seat) or the transmission cover (by the shift sticks)? How did you adjust the gear backlash without splitting the tractor at the diff/trans?

I removed both covers because I was doing some other work at the same time. I think you can do it by removing only the front cover. You have to remove the seat and platform anyway. I also removed the side cover where the pto shifter goes through. My 180 does not have 3 point hitch so if yours does it might make a diff. Hope this helps. Dave
