Injector pump is leaking, esp at low speeds , through shut-off control on top of pump. Dealer said to replace seals and gasket in upper part of pump. Parts came to around $11 , is this a easy fix or does it require someone more skilled than us weekend tractor mechanics?

I have a drawing showing what is involved in replaceing the O-ring on the shut off a throttle shaft with instructions on replacing them. If you will send me an email address I will email it to you.

I have written this one up before, but am having computer trouble. Might search MF board archives. Spray the area real good with engine cleaner gunk and hose off. Cleaner the better, if you drop a ball of grease/dirt into the top while the cover is off - big trouble. MOST important thing is to have some paper and pencil when you take off the cover. Just pull it up a little bit, look under it at the spring linkage. One end is a multi-hole flat shaft. Write down which hole it is hooked in. Other end is shaped like a tombstone (round topped) with multiple holes, again write down which hole it is hooked in. The tractor will not run right or put out correct power unless BOTH are reconnected in the proper holes. Now remove spring, remove top. Next remove the throttle shaft and kill shaft. Next remove the little O-rings on the throttle shaft and the kill shaft. There are 2 o-rings on each. Replace with new. Use a new gasket for putting the top back on. About 4 hands is nice to get the spring back in the right holes during reassembly. Fixed my MF-690 couple years ago. Absolutely no leaks now. Cost of job between 5 and 6 dollars. Good luck, post back if problems. Tom

I had to do the same thing on my ford several months ago. One of the guys in these forums gave me some good pointers (be careful of the spring under the cover so that it stays in the same holes as there is a choice of several). I also did a google search for CAV injector pumps and there was a site that had numerous photos of the parts (another site had a drawing)so you will know what to expect when you take the cover off. Oh yeah; the shafts stay on the pump and the cover slides over them. Don't try to take the shafts (throttle and shutoff) off with the cover.
