I posted a while back about my MF50 which is stuck in 2nd gear. I tried prying it through the oil filler as posted here, but couldn't get it out, and I don't want to force it, and break something. I need to remove the cover. Can anyone give me any insight on how to remove the cover. Do I have to remove the steering column, and dash housing? Thanks

Hi,
Before you remove the cover try this. Bend a piece of 1/2" round bar into a shallow curve at one end...a bit like an umbrella handle. It is easier with a curved bar. If you are stuck in second it means that you will have to push the selector nearest to the filler hole forward to get neutral. Jam the clutch pedal down to make sure that there is no loading in the transmission. Fit the bar against the rear of the selector and apply moderate pressure. This is normally enough. If you have to take the cover off then it is a lot easier to remove the instrument panel completely. Check for the springs on the selector rods when you remove the cover and refit it. Good luck
