Why do people put bigger tires on tractors? Is it just to add more weight to the tractor? I have a MF 65 which if I'm not mistaken is supposed to have 12.9-28 but mine has 13.9-28. Why?

Thanks
Steve

Your tractor has undersized tires on it. A 65 should have 14.9x28 tires.

Man, there must be a million reasons why some of us put bigger tires on tractors. Some of those reasons are even GOOD ones.

I put 14.9X28"'s on my 150, replacing stock 13.6X28"'s to get more diameter. (About 3" taller besides being a couple inches wider)With stock tires, it was too slow in Hi/1st for mowing and plowing. The added diameter gave me a small percentage increase in ground speed, and now she plows JUST RIGHT!

Consider rim width before swapping sizes though. Check tire manufacturers rim width recomendations. Tire size is determined with a certain size rim. 1" too narrow won't kill anyone, but it WILL alter the tires stance. In my case, my rims are 1" narrower than recommended. That catually HELPED my cause. (Makes the tire stand a bit taller)

I'm thinking the MF 65 came stock with 13X28 (now 13.6X28) and NOT 12.4X28". Maybe even 14.9X28 Could be wrong about that. I was wrong once, a LONG TIME ago. (That's a joke----- sarcasm)

13x28 was replaced by 14.9x28. 13.6x28 replaced the old 12x28.

Yep! I knew the 65 didn't have 12.4's as O.E.M., but wasn't quite sure what size WAS stock. Those old tires sizes were essentially RIM SIZEin place of section width today.
