We are restoring a 1952 MH22, serial number 22GIRF20406. When we sandblasted off the red paint, we found yellow paint underneath. Could this have been an industrial tractor or did MH just use yellow primer? Also, what do the letter in the serial number stand for? We know G=gas and R=row crop. Thanks!

L. D.

This tractor could have been painted,as we did,
several times over the years for a township, city,
or state sale. The yellow was called Straw Yellow
in that era. The GIRF stands for G(gas)I(reg altitude)R (row crop) F (foot clutch only)

Could that "I" be a "J", that would indicate industrial. F = single clutch
