Overhead valves with the distributor on top of the head? I think you meant "side valves" (flathead engine) right? Does the tractor have side panels (or the hinge remnants for side panels)?

Then you probably have a MH 101 or 102 Junior, or an 81/82/20/22 (same series). Obviously, the oval serial number plate is missing so scratch away and wire brush the upper surface area just behind and to the left (towards the clutch pedal) of the cast shifting platform (gearshift platform). The number will be hand stamped in there in large numbers. Look hard, they usually are not stamped in too deeply. Is the front frame a cast iron tub or is it a channel iron frame?

A channel iron frame with a 4-cylinder flathead and sidepanels would probably indicate a MH 81, 82, 20, or 22. These all looked pretty much the same. Did you find a serial number yet?

Well, there were small differences in engine size. I think the 81 and 82 came first (early 40's) and the 81's had the 124 cubic inch engine while the 82's had the 140 size. Later, the 20 and 22 showed up after the war I think with the 20 having the 124 and the 22 the 140. All engines were identical except for the cylinder bore diameter. The 81, 82, and 20 models had a slightly different shape on the side panel curve than the 22's. Other than that I think they were much the same tractor. Did you ever find a serial number?
