Went and looked at a MF 175 today that is for sale. Questions: It has some somke that comes form the breather pipe (little pipe that drops down beside the block) when the tractor is idling at very low rpm's but does not do it when idled up. Should this be a big concern??? The big question is about the pto. The handle to engauge the pto is loose along with the shaft going into the rear end housing and the owner said that when he would bush hog it would disengauge at times. He told me that if he held his foot against the leaver it would stay engauged. Is this a big problem?? I want to use this tractor to run a small hay baler next year but the pto has me worried. Everything else is in good shape. This tractor comes with a 7ft disc harrow, 7 shank plow, 7ft bush hog, box scrap, and cultivator. He is moving and is asking $5300 for it what do you guys think.

Thanks,
Kenny

I think the price is good if everything is in good to average shape!

If he doesn't answer in a day or so the PTO question should be addressed to Big Dean! I think he's a former MF repairman and he could better explain those details.

If your going to bale hay, you will want the PTO lever fixed!

Some smoke from the breather pipe is normal, especially when idling. As for the PTO problem, it is difficult to guess without having more information. Does the tractor have live PTO (dual stage clutch) or is it a 175 with fully indepedent PTO (single stage clutch)?
As for price, $5300 is real reasonable for the tractor and all the equipment. That is provided it doesn't cost too much to correct the PTO problem.
