I have a MF 135 3-cylinder Perkins that runs for 45 min - hour and then stops. It is then hard to restart, often draining the battery. Symptons; it will run fine then while mowing or spraying the engine will race up for a second or so. It will continue to run for 5 - 10min then will slowly die. It seems like air in the fuel line, but i have bled the system several times. In bleeding the system the lower vent screw on the the injection pump has good pressure, but the upper vent screw slowly drips out. Does it sound like the pump needs to be replaced?

Thanks for any help

Is the fuel tank vent clear? Could be vacuum forming in the tank.

Had similar problems when I used a fuel tank burnt in a fire. Needed to clean the conical gauze filter above the fuel tap in the tank and the mesh filter above the lift pump fuel bowl. They kept blocking up with carbon. Check for any leaking pipes I had one small fuel pipe wear through where it touched the fuel tank.

Checked the filter at the fuel tank and it was clogged up. It has never been checked that I know of in the families 30 yrs of ownership. was not able to confirm that this resolved the problem. I had to pack and get back to town for work. Did not have a replacement, so I just cleaned it with an air compressor. The way it looked it must be the problem. I disconnected the line from the fuel tank valve and no gas would come out.

Thanks for you advice.

How clean is your fuel tank and filter(s)? You can get stuff growing in your tank in warm climates especially. So I'm wondering if you have some floating colonies of stuff that eventually clog the tank outlet. Have you bled the filters? They can trap air, too.
