MF 30 exhaust: need help

I drove under an overhanging cedar and off came the 30's muffler, pipe and all. From the very corroded threads on the stub which used to thread into the manifold, I think a new pipe might thread right in with some cleaning.

The manifold has a bead of weld on either side of the exhaust flange, though it looks strong enough. The muffler was pretty new when I bought the tractor last fall, so it should slide right off the stub.

What I need is the length and diameter of the pipe and the size of the thread. Anybody know?

had to replace the stack on Farmall 400 and sounds like you have same setup, had lenth of big water pipe threaded into the manifold, old pipe came out in pieces, looked at big boxes but all they had was too short, finally found long enuf pipe at a plumbing sullpy house

nephew borrowed an enormous pipe tap the right size and his father re-tapped the threads, had to use a pry bar to get the tap started and it was approximate kinda job but came out well, the cast cuts easy once you get a good bite started, back off often to keep chips cleared

The pipe dimensions from the 30 parts book are:
1 1/2 pipe X 11 5/16 length. p/n is 760658m1. Std
pipe should not be hard to get. Chuck

MF 30 exhaust:: hardware part in reply to mn.Chuck, 07-25-2006 18:07:28
The local hardware store had 1 1/2" threaded pieces about five inches long, so I grabbed one. Should have grabbed two and a coupler, because that's what had been in there before.

The grip of the threads was a bit tentative and I didn't want to force things too much. Has anyone tapped this hole on the manifold successfully? My neighbour has a set of plumbing taps and dies.

Great! Thanks for the information. I'll pick up a piece of 1 1/2" threaded pipe tomorrow and see how it goes.

Rod, if you or someone has a parts book, it will list the exact pipe size and length. The thread is a standard pipe thread for the size (diameter) of pipe. Massey was good that way with their parts books. I only have a Colt parts book.
