Hi, I just bought a MF 1130 with the 354 perkins turbo, the engine has a knock and i would like to hear suggestions on what it might be. The knock sounds like its in the top end, it is very loud and metal on metal sounding, it does not change with load, it increases with engine RPM. The tractor has white/blue smoke. This tractor has sat for 10yrs, it was the one for sale on here, in IL. I have got the rocker box cover off, i thought it might be a valve sticking and the piston hitting it, because the piston comes right up to the head. But the valves don't seem to be sticking. I ideas????? ?

Thanks

Ryan

I've had an 1100 through my shop with the very same symptoms your tractor has. When I tore down the motor I found a bent connecting rod(caused the knock). A couple of bent push rods, and a piston that had the rings break apart and work their way up on top of the piston. strangly enough all of the journals were within .001 of spec and the valve train was still in good shape.
