I have a old Massey Harris Pony that has braking problems. The brakes are at the point where they won't stop the tractor so I took the covers off the rear axle housing. Water poured out of one side and has a thick coat of slimey gear oil coating the braking assembly. I would like to clean the braking assembly and replace the braking bands but I am worried that they will get contaminated again. Can anybody tell me how and why this is happening and how to correct this. Also where can can I get the replacement parts I need? Any help would be welcome. Thanks

I found the seals for the rear end ON THE SHELF at bumber to bumber in town. They stock them. Mine was for a pacer but they should be the same.

Sounds like your getting water in the tranny (maybe by the gear shifter leaver) plus it sounds like your seals are/could be worn and is allowing fluid into the brake area from the transmission.

Thanks for your answer . I have a operating and servicing instruction book i will look to see where the seals for that part might be. I am not sure if i can find the parts to fix it because it is so old. If anybody has a idea on that please e mail me [email protected] Thanks again DAVE

Is the boot at the shifter allowing rain water in?
