Your tractor is a Ferguson HI-40 and sold as such. It is the exact same tractor as the Massey Harris 50 and Massey Ferguson 50 which they started seliing in 1958.The only difference was the sheet metal and color scheme. Your 40 is supposed to have beige colored tin, flint grey mettalic castings and red radiator screen panels. The screen behind the 40 on the air intake is black and not red. That mistake is frequently made. I had two of these tractors on our farm as a kid. Go to the FENA website to get the right beige color code. It is a "bamboo yellow". Some guys make it too yellow green and others make it too light cream in color. Do a professional paint job with high quality paint and you will have a fairly rare tractor especially with the single wheel in front. Also use the right decals. FENA people can help. Enjoy and good luck.

I consider it the last Ferguson. See the information about the merger. There were about 10,000 made. The serial number code suggests that it started out its life with a dual narrow front.

It is a 1957 model Massey Harris Ferguson (MHF), made after the merger of Massey Harris and Ferguson and sold by the Ferguson dealers. Yes, it is fairly rare, particularly with the single front wheel. Check out Ferguson Enthusiasts of North America (FENA) for more info. The F-40 was only made in "56 and "57. Many were wide front. Some had power steering. They were pretty much the same tractor as the Massey Harris 50 and the Massey Ferguson 50, with different sheet metal. The engine is a Continental 134, which is also used on the Ferguson TO-35.
