I have a 135 diesel that does the same thing. It is sometimes dangerous in close quarters. Ain't gotta clue as to what the problem is.

I had the same problem with a FE35. The tractor was dangerous to use. I tried clutch adjustement with no sucess. I then put in an entire new clutch assembly (cost about $500 in Australia). The old assembly was very worn. the new clutch completly solved the problem.

Follow the instructions in MF 35 (and up) Tractor Assembly Notes by Jack Wetmore in the Articles under Research and Info on the left of this page.

Instructions in Big Dean's CD, or from a shop manual will also help.

It took me about 3 hours work to replace the clutch. It has worked perfectly ever since (about 5 years ago)

Two possibilities: The clutch pedal freeplay needs adjusting or the pressure plate springs need adjustment.
All clutch pedals need to have a certain anmmouny of freeplay and there is an adjustment procedure for them.See the shop manual or the owners manual.
On the TO- series the pressure plate springs have to be adjusted to the correct length or the clutch will not release properly when you step on the clutch pedal. See the appropriate shop manual for instructions on how to adjust the spring length. You'll have to split the tractor.
